Margaret Jenkins Harris
verse 1
When I saw the cleansing fountain
Open wide for all my sin
I obeyed the Spirit’s wooing
When He said Wilt thou be clean
verse 2
I will praise Him I will praise Him
Praise the Lamb for sinners slain
Give Him glory all ye people
For His blood can wash away each stain
verse 3
Though the way seems straight and narrow
All I claimed was swept away
My ambitions plans and wishes
At my feet in ashes lay
verse 4
Blessed be the Name of Jesus
I’m so glad He took me in
He’s forgiven my transgressions
He has cleansed my heart from sin
verse 5
Glory glory to the Father
Glory glory to the Son
Glory glory to the Spirit
Glory to the Three in One
When I saw the cleansing fountain
Open wide for all my sin
I obeyed the Spirit’s wooing
When He said Wilt thou be clean

I will praise Him I will praise Him
Praise the Lamb for sinners slain
Give Him glory all ye people
For His blood can wash away each stain

Though the way seems straight and narrow
All I claimed was swept away
My ambitions plans and wishes
At my feet in ashes lay

Blessed be the Name of Jesus
I’m so glad He took me in
He’s forgiven my transgressions
He has cleansed my heart from sin

Glory glory to the Father
Glory glory to the Son
Glory glory to the Spirit
Glory to the Three in One

Call to Worship

Brief but meaningful reflections to help your congregation engage with the story, emotions, and spiritual truths behind beloved hymns before lifting their voices in worship together. Feel free to read as is or put into your own words!

As we prepare to lift our voices in worship, let’s take a moment to reflect on the powerful testimony woven into the hymn “I Will Praise Him.” These words, penned by Margaret Jenkins Harris over one hundred years ago, speak of a life transformed by the cleansing power of Jesus.

Like Margaret, we too can experience the joy of sins forgiven and hearts made clean. As the music washes over us, let’s imagine ourselves at that fountain of grace, responding to the Spirit’s gentle call.

Though the path of surrender may seem narrow, as we lay down our plans and ambitions at Jesus’ feet, we find true freedom and purpose. With Margaret, we can sing, “Blessed be the Name of Jesus, I’m so glad He took me in!”

As we offer our praises today, let’s give glory to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit for the precious gift of salvation. May our worship be a heartfelt response to the One who has washed away every stain.
